The Alexandria Symphony Orchestra (ASO) concludes its 2025-2026 season with James Ross’ Finale – Bruch & Sibelius, a powerful and celebratory program marking the final concerts of Music Director James Ross’ tenure with the orchestra. After eight years of visionary artistic leadership and transformative musical growth for the ASO, Ross takes the podium one last time to lead the orchestra in a sweeping program that reflects both his adventurous programming and deep connection to the symphonic repertoire. This season finale offers audiences a chance to celebrate Ross’ lasting artistic legacy while experiencing an unforgettable musical farewell.

The program opens with Missy Mazzoli’s Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres), a contemporary work celebrated for its luminous textures and sense of cosmic motion. Renowned violinist and Alexandria native Alexander Kerr (photo above) then joins the orchestra for Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1, one of the most beloved works in the violin repertoire. Kerr also appeared on Ross’s first program with the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, creating a meaningful full-circle moment in Ross’s tenure. The concert concludes with Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2, a monumental and triumphant work often regarded as one of the composer’s greatest achievements. With its sweeping themes and powerful finale, the symphony provides a fitting and inspiring conclusion to Ross’ tenure with the ASO. Following the 2025-2026 season, Ross will stay connected to ASO as he transitions to Music Director Laureate.
