The Alexandria Arts Alliance strongly supported a budget amendment to increase arts grants funding by $30,000 for Fiscal Year 2027. This amendment was sponsored by Mayor Alyia Gaskins, along with Vice Mayor Sarah Bagley and Councilman Canek Aguirre. ALXAA Board Member Hilary Tomeny testified in favor of the amendment during a public hearing on April 18, which you may read here (attached link).
On April 21, the amendment was unanimously passed. Importantly, this increase is an ongoing item, and will be included in future city budgets. On April 29, the City Council formally adopted the Fiscal Year 2027 budget, including the arts grants funding.
