Alexandria Plein Air Society at Nepenthe Gallery

Nepenthe Gallery partnered with the Alexandria Plein Air Society for this exhibit of 50+ plein air paintings by 10 artists:  Mary Anne Cochran-Fox, Seana Gallagher, Deborah Hurtt, Mary Jukuri, Renée Lachman, Jennifer Tallarico, Mairi Thorne, D’Lisa Turner, Anne Winberg, and Vicky Zhou.  Works include acrylic, gouache, oil, pastel, and watercolor.  This exhibit will be open at Nepenthe Gallery until July 9th.

The Alexandria Plein Air Society formed when a group of individuals, united by a shared passion for painting, sought to continue creating art and connecting with fellow artists during the COVID pandemic. A meet-up time and location posted on social media in early 2020 blossomed into weekly plein air sessions with newfound friends that continue on today.

In this group exhibition, viewers are invited to reconnect with the environments that surround us daily. The paintings are reminders of how landscapes shape and inspire our lives. By painting outside (en plein air), artists explore the enduring beauty of the landscape; these painters capture fleeting moments of light, color, and atmosphere in their attempt to preserve moments of stillness, beauty, and connection to place.

Nepenthe Gallery also opened its “Summer Solstice 2025: Curated Expo of Local Artists” at its ART+WINE+CHEESE” reception on Thursday, June 19th.  Five local artists are featured in this showcase:  Saya Behnam, Mary Bockenek, Lucy Goddin, Margitta Hanff, and Kelly St. Clair.  The exhibit will be up until July 16th.

Nepenthe Gallery & Custom Framing is open Tues-Fri from 11am to 6pm and Sat-Sun from 9am to 4pm.  The gallery is located in the Hollin Hall Shopping Center at 7918 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria, VA  22308
